Why we cannot see colours at night?

Rod cells are active at night and in low light. They produce poorly defined images. Cone cells function in daylight and artificial bright light and produce detailed images and give colour vision. Cone cells do not react to low light because they are less sensitive than rod cells. This is why we cannot see colours clearly at night.
